District Training

trained patchOur District provides training events open to leaders of all Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, and Venture Units in Whispering Pines as well as units in the Greater Western Reserve Council.

These training events are hosted by the District Training Committee.
Many of these Training sessions are mandatory for Unit Leaders in order for them to properly perform their leadership role. Also, National is increasingly mandating that units have a certain amount of trained leaders in order to receive Quality Unit recognition as well as the individual leader recognitions. Most importantly, proper training helps you to give your Scouts the best possible Scouting experience.		 wolf logo

Types of Training
Traditionally, training has been done in classroom and camp out events. Recently, BSA has moved into multitude presentations and online learning. Then, many of us leaders with too much time on our hands have begun passing on our knowledge thru both officially recognized and unofficial sites on the internet. Also, some training is specific to one part of the program (i.e. Cub Scout Fast-Start) while other training is general and applies to any unit.
The complete schedule of Training for all GWRC is available thru the Council Training Page. One thing about training, if the scheduled training you need is available thru another District you can sign up and participate in their training class.

wolf logo Fast Start As it's name implies, this session was created to give new Cub Leaders and parents a "Fast Start" on what the Cub program is about. Video, Internet
wolf logo Basic Leader Training OK. Basic is designed to give you the training you need for the Leadership position you currently hold in the Pack. This is held twice yearly as 3 evening sessions. 1st session is basic information for all leaders, 2nd session is specific to your position, 3rd session is planning events and activities.
Most years we also present the whole thing in a 1 day session on a Saturday.

bs leaders logo ScoutMaster Fundamentals As the title implies, this is a class on the fundamentals of being a Scout Master. (Assistant Scout Masters are welcome.) Like the WEBELOS Leader Training, there is an indoor and outdoor portion to this and both need to be completed.
