What Is Venturing?
The Venturing program of the Boy Scouts of America is for high school age youth and is organized locally into Crews that have specialties such as High Adventure, hobbies, sports, or youth ministry. It includes girls and boys ages 14 through 20 who have completed the eighth grade. Venturing has elements of the traditional BSA program (Boy Scout Troops) while enhanced with new advancement, leadership, and development opportunities
This is different from the Career Exploring Posts that are part of the Learning for Life subsidiary of the BSA.
Venturing In The Districts
As the Venturing program is part of the traditional Scouting along with Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops, each Venture Crew is part of a local District in the Greater Western Reserve Council. Adult Crew Advisors receive the support of the district committees, the commissioner staff and the professional District Executive. Advisors are invited to attend District Roundtables to learn about general Scouting news and training. Future Roundtables will begin to offer program specific information for Venturing.

Rank Advancement for Venturers
Any male Venturer who has achieved the First Class rank as a Boy Scout in a troop may continue advancement toward the Star, Life, and Eagle Scout ranks up to his 18th birthday. He must meet the requirements as prescribed in the official Boy Scout Handbook and the current Boy Scout Requirements book. The Venturer may fulfill leadership requirements by serving as president, vice president, secretary, or treasurer of his crew, or as boatswain, boatswain's mate, yeoman, purser, or storekeeper for his ship.
The Crew Advisor or Skipper will conduct the traditional Scoutmaster conference. As the Venturer meets requirements for the Star and Life ranks, a board of review will be conducted by the crew or ship committee. The Eagle board of review should follow the procedures established by the GWRC council.
