Training is designed to give new leaders the knowledge and skills, as well as generate the enthusiasm, that they need to be successful. After completion of New Leader Essentials, Cub Scout Leaders are to complete the specific course for his or her own position in the program. Five different courses related to specific Cub Scouting positions are offered:
All courses use the Cub Scout Leader Book as a basis for the training. Participants are encouraged to have this book and use it as an ongoing resource throughout the training and after training. The separate courses cover similar general topics but with specifics appropriate to the leadership position.
Pack organization and the role of the Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster, the Cub Scout Advancement Program and Pack Program Planning and Support are the major topics covered in this training.
The Cub Scout Den Leader, as well the Tiger and Webelos Leader, is a vital part of the Cub Scout program and the Leader shares in the success of the Pack and understands his/her role in the Pack Organization. The Cub Scout Advancement Program functions at the Den level so Den (and Pack) Program Planning are important training topics in order to assist Leaders.
This course also includes the relationship of the Webelos Den Leader to Pack organization, the Advancement Program at the Webelos level and Den and Pack Program Planning. In addition, the very important topic of the Webelos to Boy Scouting Transition is included.
Tiger Cub Leaders also need to understand the Organization of the Pack and the role of the Tiger Cub Den Leader, the specific Tiger Cub Advancement Program and Program Planning fro the Den and the Pack.
This course includes Pack Organization and the role of the Pack Committee, the Cub Scout Advancement Program and Den and Pack Program Planning.
BALOO (Basic Leader Outdoor Orientation) All Cub Scout leaders with a desire to plan and carry out an entry-level outdoor experience for the pack. This is the first step in the BSA outdoor training program and it does not replace any existing training. (Mandatory one per Pack) Each Cub Scout Pack level overnight event must be under the direction of a BALOO trained Leader. Check the Local Tour Permit.
