Scouts, The Jamboree is getting near! Are you ready? Here is a sampling of some helpful hints for Jambo.
- Always have a water bottle at all jambo events
- Make sure your patrol clean up crew cleans the dishes properly.
- There will be fair duty rosters
- Keep close track of time and events, cooks need to know when to be back at camp to cook
- Transportation is the biggest time waster, plan your day accordingly
- Plan out a daily schedule
- Merit Badge midway is a good place to get out of the rain
- Bring 5 gallon buckets for storage of your clean clothes, etc.
- Use padlocks for your tent zipper, for more security
- Electric flourescent lanterns with alkaline batteries should be used
- No gas, oil, or candle lanterns!
- Have high bulk acylic or polypropylene sock liners to prevent blisters, at least four pairs
- Keep your sleeping bag inside a plastic garbage bag for protection against heavy rain
- The Troop will keep a locked bank to store your valuables, Bonnie Davis will keep this 'bank' (Troop 1318 only)
- Medications are to be turned in to Bonnie Davis for safe keeping (Troop 1318 only)
- Use phone cards
- $10 - $15 a day is a good budget
- Expect rain!!!
- Mark all of your clothing, especially socks
- Prepare pre addressed envelopes for sending home
- Have an extra dirty clothes bag
- Bring a good ground cloth and a cot
- Use travelers checks with the scouts name on them in $20 increments
- Get a photo ID for the scouts for check cashing
- Use a neck wallet to store money and valuables
- A pair of high top 'duck' boots are valuable for rain
- Keep shoes tied
- Each scout should have a roll of quarters for pop machines, telephone, etc.
- Bring warm clothes for after rains
- Bring wide mouth (put in ice) 1 liter water bottle for the hot days
- Bring extra duct tape
- Put your name on EVERYTHING that you own!
- Bring extra coat hangers
- In case of rain, bring something to take up your time, book, cards, etc.
- Bring a roll of TP ... you never know
- Stock your day pack with a small first aid kit, ,sunburn prevention, map, camera, film, lunch, water bottle, RED poncho,
trading items, flashlight, etc.
- Bring items for giveaway or for trading
- Bring spare contacts or eyeglasses
- Bring a disposable , panoramic camera
- Assorted zip lock bags
- Extra pen and pencil, notepad.
