Four Levels of Recognition
for Endowment Gifts to the
Greater Western Reserve Council
The Greater Western Reserve Council's Endowment program provides for the future of scouting in northeast Ohio. An endowment program utilizes the interest from investments to provide for Council programs and camps. Contributions may be made with cash, securities, land, or other property; there may be tax ramifications. But, in general, people give to scouting because they believe in what scouting is accomplishing every day. The National Boy Scout Council and the Greater Western Reserve Council provides for a Heritage Society, which recognizes individuals and organizations that contribute to the endowment fund or funds of the Council. There are four levels of recognition:
JAMES E. WEST- Named after the first Chief Scout Executive, the James E. West fellowship is for gifts of $ 1,000 or more in cash or marketable securities to an endowment fund(s). The gift must be in addition to – and not replace or diminish- the donor's annual gift. Many West Fellows are given by individuals, or groups, to honor a particular Scouter, Eagle Scout, or a family member; even institutions can be honored with a James E. West.
WILLIAM D. BOYCE SOCIETY – The William D. Boyce level of giving recognizes any couple, individual, or organizations that makes a deferred gift to the endowment fund(s) in any amount up to $ 100,000. There are four levels of recognition in the William D. Boyce Society:
THE 1910 SOCIETY- The 1910 Society honors those that make gifts of $ 25,000 or more in the form of cash, securities, land, or a five-year pledge. There are four levels of recognition in the 1910 Society, depending on the amount of the gift:
THE FOUNDERS CIRCLE- The Founders Circle recognizes deferred gifts, such as bequests in a will or through a codicil; a charitable trust; gift annuities or pooled income gifts; life insurance/retirement plan designations.
